I'm currently doing my A2 studies, and I should be predicted at least A*A*AB. I hope to apply for Maths at Oxford and 4 other unis. I have already achieved the A* in A-level Maths (100 UMS in Core 3 & 4, and 491/500 UMS). Should all 5 universities I apply to therefore have a minimum entry requirement of A*(Maths)AA, bearing in mind I've already achieved the A*, or should I apply to 1/2 unis which have a entry requirement of AAA, as a back-up option if I get 2/3 rejections, and the rest A*AA/A*A*A?

Don't go off entry requirements alone, for each uni look at whether they're actually appealing to you, visit open days if possible, speak to current students etc. If you do all that and find 5 unis that you love that require, say, A*A*A or greater... then you've done really well or aren't too fussed about where you go to uni.

Maybe your starters for 10 are to look at Warwick/Oxford/Imperial/UCL/Durham, pick which ones you like the look of / try to eliminate one or two unis from there then maybe look at something like Bath or ya know.. you get the picture. And don't just pick a random uni for AAA (I appreciate that you already have an A* so that's not the best example...) that you haven't really looked into, otherwise chances are you will reject it and reapply the year after. If you're going to apply to a uni with slightly lower entry requirements, it'd be ideal if you were actually prepared to go there come results day.

It's great that you have achieved and exceeded the entry requirements. That should get you through there first round of eliminations.

But you need to think about your personal statement, what have you actually done with your life? that's the bit that gets you through the next rounds of eliminations. It's not enough to just be smart, you have to stand out some how.
