I am going into second year of chemical engineering at Edinburgh, hoping to pick up a placement or internship at a company next summer, I have two main problems.
1) I live in North Wales, middle of nowhere, no industry and awful train links, if i happened to find a placement in say Liverpool or Manchester it would be near impossible to commute, I would have to find accommodation within the area I assume, which would be very costly and difficult to manage, is there any way to work around this? Should i maybe look to internships in only Edinburgh and Glasgow instead since i have a flat up there?
2) I had a very bad experience with finding summer internships in between sixth form and university, 5 rejections, I know i may have been impatient and I'm willing to search harder this time but does being in university help in getting internships in any way? I'm hoping my personal tutor could help me with something like this, but maybe I'm being unrealistic.
The idea of coming home next year and working in the local spar is depressing me when i know i could be out there learning about a passion I have and working on skills i will need. Anyone with any experience please reply it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
...or just paranoid?
