Gulf War II - Echelon & The Smoking Gun

This thread is a debate about the intelligence that lead up to the attack on Iraq - please note this is NOT a debate about the rights and wrongs of attacking.

Echelon

For those of you who are unaware the English speaking countries of the world (USA, UK, Canada, Australia & New Zealand) united at the end of WW2 to form an intelligence network. This network exists to this day and is based on an AI that sorts through all digital communication and picks out key words (wont list possible examples here or they will get pis$ed off) and then the conversation is monitored. This is meant* to be used for gaining intelligence on terrorist plans.

Smoking Gun?

Now, before the invasion Colin Powel gave ecidence that had apparently came from Iraqi soldiers talking about illegal weapons (this almost definetly came from Echelon) such as chemical and biological. It has now been shown that this evidence was almost definetly wrong. The question then is this: did the collilition governments falsify the evidence or did someone else plant it (such as terrorists wishing to abush the Americans)?

*The EU claims that Echelon has also been used for corporate espianage and has advised its members to use encryption - a move which has apparently angered the Americans.
