Hi guys,I was just wondering that When the latest you can apply for student finance? as I can't apply for it until I get the indefinite stay to live in the UK which I will get in March or April (2017), round about that time. Furthermore, I have been living in the UK since 29 September 2014. Therefore on 29 September 2017, I will have been living in the country for three years but the student finance's website says that you must have been in this country for three years before starting your course. I know most of the courses start in early September which makes the situation worse but I also know some courses also start in October so, shall I look for the courses that are going to start after 29 September 2017 or Will I be able to get the student finance for the courses that are starting before 29 September 2017?(I don't want to take a gap year)

You must be living in the UK 3 years on the start of the academic year, which student finance class as September 1st.

Not until September 2018 at the earliest. I think a gap year will be unavoidable.

Always best to phone Student Finance and check with them, but Tiger's explanation of the rule is as I understand it.

I'm in very similar situation, with the only difference being that I'll have been in the UK for 3 years in 2 weeks time but my course (2nd year of my HND course at college more precisely) has officialy started on the 1st of August or something like that, therefore I'm not eligible to apply for any funding other than tuition fees as I've missed the deadline by few weeks and have to wait until I go to uni for another 2 years in September 2017 when SAAS will reassess my eligibility and most likely give me full support then.

If I take a gap year, can anyone tell me how to apply for a gap year? and how do you contact UCAS after completing the gap year?

You don't need to tell anyone. A gap year is just a year when you do what you want, be that working, travelling etc. You then apply as normal for uni via UCAS for a September 2018 start, when applications open for that academic year (late in 2017).*
