I have done 5 online Courses so far; 4 of them are related to medicine and one is for learning a foreign language and I have also signed up for 2 more.

I wanted to know whether or not it is a good idea to mention those courses in my personal statement. If I do mention them, should I dedicate a whole paragraph for them or just link them to related skills?

Should I also buy the certificates?

Definitely mention them, how much space you dedicate depends on how much else you have. Don't bother buying the certificates.

If you think the MOOCs were valuable experiences then it's definitely worth mentioning them. How much space to devote to them depends on how important you feel they are relative to other things you have to talk about. Do not bother buying the certificates.
