Flowing wigs, beautifully-tailored clothes, leather boots, Elizabethan ruffs, etc. These days, men seem to have reverted to something primitive and animalistic - they desire to show off their bare chests and reveal muscles. They prefer messy beards to the clean-shaven look.

Such a shame that men's fashion has seen such a regression.

I think thats a bit unfair. These historical men you refer to no doubt were the ones with all the money. Men today do put effort into looking after themselves; more so than others.

By that logic so have women's. They've gone from huge elegant dresses to strap tops and leggings.

I mean both statements are idiotic, because you're comparing formal wear at the time to casual wear today. I still have a tailored set of evening tails. I know girls who still have lovely ballgowns. And beards go in and out of fashion much more regularly than that. Only a decade ago they weren't very cool, but back in Tudor days even the king was rocking one.

If you're talking about the garb they wore in one of the Blackadder series (I forget which one), they looked ridiculous. Absolutely. ****ing. Ridiculous.

Men dress well to show off to other men. The change in fashions reflects that men need to show off to women to later and later ages.

    It's not sexy, it's animal.
