How many hours a week was your first year time table?

Another random question: is the 3 x 10 week terms quite standard? In all I'm only doing at most 27 weeks (maybe less with exam breaks?!)

Last term is usual exam prep so expect hardly any contact time
I'm doing mechtronic engineering and I had 25 hours/week in my first year. Seems to be dropping to about 17 this year

Not really, it's usually one large first term of about 12/13 weeks then two 8-10 week terms, otherwise you end up breaking up very early for Christmas and heading back very soon after new year. Exam or coursework breaks will take off 4-6 weeks of that time.

There are the term dates, there's a 1 week break every term. I have seem to have the shortest terms out of the few unis I checked.
Autumn Term Monday 3 October 2016 - Saturday 10 December 2016
Spring Term Monday 9 January 2017 - Saturday 18 March 2017
Summer Term Monday 24 April 2017 - Saturday 1 July 2017
In my first year (Biology) I had 10 hours a week of lectures, 3-6 hours in labs and 1 hour in a tutorial. At most that was 16 hour a week.

In my second year I had around 12 hours a week in lectures. Labs were a bit random, where some weeks I could spend 9 hours in labs and then go weeks with nothing. I haven't got my third year timetable yet, but I think it will be similar for the first term and a half and then I have nothing apart from my dissertation.
My first year and second year were both 20 or 21 hours (typically, 14 in lectures, 6 in labs, 1 tutorial). Thankfully, I had only one 9am start. I haven't had my third year timetable yet, but it's going to be a bit skewed, as I'm doing 5 half modules in the Autumn term, and only 3 in the Spring. Subject is Astrophysics.
Mine has around 18 a week. But the same course at imperial has 25 per week

Not enough to be ever worth doing a degree in.

Very very snobbish and unnecessary.

Not really snobbish as we are all collectively paying £50k for it.

He's not exactly wrong.
My last two years off college:-
9am - 5pm every day.

My first year of uni:-
Monday - 2pm - 4pm
Tuesday - Off
Wednesday - 10am - 2pm
Thursday - 9am - 1pm
Friday - 9am - 1pm

Safe to say I'm slightly disillusioned in how much they'll be covering.

What's diff between seminar lecture etc?

Lectures are where a lecturer is teaching you and 200+ other people, when I consider the fee I'm paying is ridiculous. I don't expect one to one lectures, but certainly smaller group would be nice.

Tutorials are where you ask any questions if you're stuck and get extra support. I also have tutorial work to do as it will form part of my coursework portfolio at the end. I usually have my print out lecture slides in tutorial, go over what I don't know and do the tutorial work.

Seminar are where the class is much smaller (20 people) and you discuss a task or group work etc. I only have one seminar for second year.

Hope this helps!
