If I took a 'gap year'/deferred my entry not to volunteer or travel the world but to save up some money for university the next year(2018), would this affect my chances of being accepted compared to someone who was applying for 2017 entry ?

This would be good to know as I too want to save up some more money working before going to university (but I do want to go and do a bit of travelling too )
I am currently considering whether it would be better applying for 2017 entry and deferring until 2018 or whether just to apply next September for 2018 entry although I feel the first option would make more sense. I just want to know from previous experience how easy it is to defer entry and whether this is a good enough reason to do so (it hopefully should be but have heard some uni's don't offer deferred entries).
