I'm looking to apply for an MA in Middle Eastern studies. So far, my favourite course would be at KCL, as I doubt I'll get into the MPhil Modern Middle Eastern Studies at Oxford. I'd like to focus on Iran, Saudi Arabia and the West's foreign politics and communication with this region. I'm also looking for a course which has Farsi language elements.

Does anyone have any advice on whether the KCL MA in Middle Eastern studies would suit me with my interests?
Or which other courses might be worth looking at?

All I know is I don't want SOAS, do not approve of their political affiliations and stances.

    Thanks xxx

You really have to do your own research for this. Have you had a look at course structures? What unis have you found so far apart from KCL?

I have done my own research, but looking up online course structures and academic staff gives you only superficial overviews of a course, hence my post. I'm looking for personal experience of a course in this field.
So far I'm only interested in KCL, Edinburgh and Oxford, as the location is very important to me as well for private reasons.
So places like Exeter and Leeds are automatically no option for me.
My problem is that my research of staff and departments has so far led to the conclusion that most Middle Eastern departments are focused on Arabic and Ottoman culture, which I find interesting but it's not what I want to specialise in.

So yeah, any personal experience of Middle Eastern studies MA courses at KCL, Edinburgh or any other place that offers a focus on Persia would be great to hear about.

Have you tried contacting the uni about getting in touch with current or former students? Visit if you can.
