I have started AS, what can I do to make myself stand amongst the crowd? I know I will get AAAA but so will many others.

I will read books mainly in the holidays, but idk what else can I do? I plan to help the history department in my school that counts as volunteering

With respect, you don't know you'll get AAAA. Term has only just begun, I think you should focus on your AS' for now. Volunteering / extracurricular activities are irrelevant - Cambridge won't care about that.

Volunteer at the museum/art gallery, find an archeology dig to take part in, find some other historic sites near you to volunteer for.

Don't be arrogant - it won't come across well at interview. Look at the entry requirements online and see what they require as a minimum. Then exceed that.

You missed the word 'out' in your first paragraph - which changes the whole meaning of it. Accuracy and being able to write well are important if you're aiming for top universities.
