Hi all, I'll try and keep this short

I finished university three years ago, with a first in Journalism. I've essentially done nothing with my degree since then, aside from copywriting for a design company. This can be attributed to pure laziness in the first year, followed by personal circumstances in the following two.

The areas I'd be most keen to work in are magazine journalism, editorial assistance, publishing, proofreading and public relations. Whilst I have a good degree and consider myself a fairly competent writer, I'm aware that my lack of experience might mean even entry level jobs are out of my reach.

So what options (if any) do I have here? Are unpaid internships my only real choice?

    Thanks everyone

Have you applied for a substantial number of jobs? Have you got feedback on those applications? Have you looked at how people started their careers by checking out LinkedIn, online profiles, sector publications etc? Have you developed a portfolio of different writing examples? Do you keep up with the industry websites, literature, companies, trends? Do you have any prefered sectors, as this is a skill that can be applied in multiple areas? Have you done any pro-bono work to build experience/portfolio?
