    They're useful for credit building (improving your credit score over having no credit history at all) which may improve your chances of getting certain products like mortgages when you apply for them. You also have Section 75 protection which means that if something goes wrong with a purchase of over £100, the credit card companies have to refund you by law.

    The caveat of course is that you need to be disciplined enough to only use your credit cards for things you can afford. It's not free money and needs to be repaid. If you aren't going to do so it'll harm your credit score rather than help it.
