    Hi,
I was just wondering how engineering courses at different university are marked, is there a standard body (Such as the iet) which regulates each course or is it individual to the university. If there is a standard body, then would a 2.1 from one uni be equivalent to another in terms of difficulty.
    Thanks

So you have bodies like the IET or IMechE who accredit degrees, this just means that the course contains certain content so it's kind of like saying the degree meets a minimum standard. After that content has been put in the university is pretty much free to do whatever it wants with the course so there is room for variation although the top engineering schools have fairly similar syllabuses from what I can see.

Yes but it's not one unified body. They'll be marked and validated by an external exam board comprised of a small handful of professors from other universities. They also mark based on the syllabus that the university provides rather than producing a syllabus themselves.
