"Teach First is to replace its current programme with a two-year postgraduate diploma (PGDE), giving its paid participants two thirds of a master’s degree and leaving them more qualified than those who fork out up to £9,000 to do a university-based Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE)."

What do people think? This seems like a positive move.

So Teach First participants will have more work to do, less free time and earn less as a result (presumably they'll be earning an unqualified teacher's salary for both years of the programme?)... doesn't sound like such a great idea to me.

I guess if you look at it over the two year period.

Teach first two years as unqualified teacher salary at about 18k so 36k overall and no fees and 120 masters points.

PGCE after two years 60 masters points, 9k fees and £23k salary

I received an email from them about this. I didn't think about this aspect of the change, I was so distracted by everything else I am doing these days. I am slightly nervous about the fact they are changing things on me after I signed up to do their usual LDP. I will call them to find out more about this scheme...

It mentions the changes on the teach first website, and says that participants will receive NQT salary in year 2. It would be strange for them to update the website with PGDE changes and not changes to salary.*
