Spot (I think) in a strange and excrutiatingly painful spot. Please help me

Okay, this is the most silly and painful little problem in the world.

In the last two days a spot (not a pussy sort, a solid lumpy spot) has appeared behind my right knee, such that its at the point where my leg folds ie when sitting down. Now as spots usually do, it has caused the tissue surrounding it to go very firm, which feels absolutely horrible and I don't know why it happens, but still. I need to get this spot and its associated swelling/lump to go, and quickly, because as the swelling worsens I now cannot move the leg either way without excrutiating pain by crushing/stretching the hard tissue.

Why the hell has this happened (probably just insanely unlucky) and what can I do to encourage it to go away? It really is unbearable pain.

Rep if your solution helps!!

Thanks,
Rob
Get someone to pop it? (Most girls I know love popping spots).

It could very well be a boil not a spot. A mate of mine had one on the base of her back and it was very painful for her. She went to the GP who gave her a course of antibiotics, and it went after a few days.
I recommend you seeing a GP because lets be honest I dont think there are many people who get great big spots on the back of their knees and if you squeezing it ,it could get infected.

How big is it?
squeeze that ****er!
You do seem to spend your life in excruciating pain :frown: How is your back now? Pop into the pharmacists and see if they have any recommendations and if not, go to the doctor (although I suspect you won't)

Don't squeeze it unless it's come to a head

Could it be a bug bite? Very unusual place for a spot.

hehe, well done for remembering! No, last few days have just been ridiculous really. Back is getting better thankfully at a good rate, im walking around fine, except for limping due to a boil

Yes. I think it is a boil, and the main body of it is the size of your average small fingernail. But I can feel the area around it, thats all warm and firm (disgusting) is about the size of a 50pence piece, at least! And then its just warm beyond that.

Im currently trying to salt soak it, and use vinegar (apparently that works)... I cant get to a doctors today really, and I want to get the pain down. Will ibuprofen affect this?

Any more takers?

But too big and nasty for a bug bite... And it isnt squeezable. Whatever it is is fairly deep, although in my fury i tried to scalp it and then squeeze out any fluid (I was desperate), and I just got a bit of blood.. no pus.

No as far as I am aware painkillers dont affect it - My friend took painkillers with her antibiotics and was fine. Basically she said it hurt that much that she needed painkillers

Dont squeeze or pick at it!!!

just elevate your leg so as to keep it straight for as much of the day as you can (if your off then thats pretty much all day) and wait for it to heal? I think this is like cutting your lip where everytime you smile it opens the cut again, whereas here every time you fold your knee it annoys the boil. just keep it straight, put some sudocrem on it to take the inflammation away a bit.

Had a bath and then tried to stretch it out afterwards. The area did seem less inflamed, but still hurts a massive amount.

Anyone know how long these things take to clear up? Im already completely sick of it. Any over the counter antibiotics that would work??

You could go into boots and ask in there they normaly have good advice.
Don't prod or poke it-that will only irritate it. Apply some spot treatment gel/cream to it or some antiseptic cream and then leave well alone. If it doesn't go down, gets bigger/ more painful etc over the next week then see a pharmacist or doctor.

Hmm ive poked it quite a lot already but ill stop if you think it will help.

Annoying thing is I cant lance it and make it drain, because I cant see any pus or anything... just red, firm and kind of lumpy skin. It came on so fast, too!

Argh.
