    Hi TSR,

I am a little confused as to how the A* is awarded at A Level for maths.

    The WJEC site says:

" The A* grade is awarded at A level (GCE) from June 2010. It is awarded to candidates with a grade A at A level who obtain at least 90% of the total uniform marks available for the A2 units "

    I had 90%+ in C1, C2 and M1.

This year, my modules are C3, C4 and S1. Obviously C3 and C4 are A2 units, but is S1 counted as an 'A2 unit' in this situation?

I wonder as S1 can be sat at AS level. If it is not the case that it's an A2 unit, then I would only need 180UMS across C3 and C4 (given that I have already passed the A boundary)?

    Thanks.

Yes, you need 180/200 across c3 and c4 and at least 480/600 overall.

Yep. U_3 + U_4 > 180 where U_3 denotes UMS from C3 and U_4 denotes UMS from C4. This in addition to 480/600 UMS overall.

That is good to know. I hate S1. Core and mechanics are far nicer and generally much more straightforward modules. It all just clicks. I'll probably be getting 90%+ in C3 and 4 with something like a low C for S1 haha. I don't know what it is, hopefully it'll all snap into place at some point?

    Thanks for the replies.

I still hate statistics but you wont hate it as much when you realise simply put half of the topics are GCSE maths and you come out with 100UMS
