The only thing that works for me is to take painkillers, close the curtains and try to sleep for a couple of hours. A cool damp cloth on my forehead helps too.
Take more tablets, drink plenty of water, sleep if you can?

Ibuprofen & sleep in a dark room

Ibuprofen doesn't touch my migraines. If they're really bad, you should see a doctor and get Sumatriptan, which is a precscription drug esp for migraines. Usually works for me.

I've tried sleep but it doesn't seem to help. I might put a cloth over my forehead. Does Ibruprofen actually work? I've asked my mum to buy me some tablets specifically for migraines but she isn't home yet!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Much appreciated

Sleep at least serves as a break from the pain. Ibuprofen works fairly well for me if I take the 400mg. Good luck

I wish I rang up the doctors first thing - you have to ring at 8am here and they are normally all booked by mid-morning. So much for 24 hour care!

Thanks bun. I think I might try to get some more sleep... will see. I've taken Ibru before for headaches and they don't seem to actually do anything. I thought they were more for inflammation and joint pain?

I think I once survived a migraine with just migraleve tablets and no sleep, all other times the only option is tablets and sleep.

For me its usually 20mins from first symptoms to not being able to think (form cohesive sentences) or coordinate properly, I wouldn't be able to type a message like this and not just because I would be partially blind.

Obviously mine isn't so severe. I am having to type with one eye shut though...

Trephinning..

You need a precription for real migraine medication. Nothing else works for me. AT ALL.
Sleep. The end. Zzzzz.

Make sure you're drinking lots and lots of fluid - even mild dehydration can make a migraine 10 times worse. :frown:
I had a terrible migraine last night. Normally I take painkillers, try to drink a lot of water and go to sleep. Putting something cold on your forehead helps too. My mum got me these strip things which you stick to your head and they are cold and smell slightly of mint.

I bought some migraine tablets from up the road (cost me almost a tenner! ) but they haven't done much. The pain isn't so bad but it's still there and very painful. I slept for about an hour and a half which gave me some temporary relief:smile: Those strip things look interesting. Thanks for the tips. I've noticed I'm feeling very thirsty (woke up with a mouth like sandpaper) so I'm drinking plenty of water. I just want it to go away! I think it is stress related (waiting for results day perhaps?). Anyone else felt quite ill at the thought of it?!

I have unfortunately suffered from severe migraines all my life.

They get brought on and affect people in different ways. I mostly get one if I'm really tired or something, and I always have to be in a dark room. If you find that over-the-counter tablets aren't helping, go to your GP.

It's what I had to do.

He gave me these really strong presciption tablets that usually help to make the migraine a little more bareable.

The only thing that works for me is co-codamol soluble tablets (8/500), taking two of them as soon as my vision starts to go (although people can be allergic to codeine so don't take them if you know you are). Then just trying to get to sleep as soon as physically possible. If you feel sick with migranes, then it might be worth talking to your GP as they will be able to prescribe an antiemetic such as domperidone or metoclopramide. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I've taken 2 headache tablets (Solpadine) but they haven't touched it (that was about an hour ago). I've had it since last night. I know I shouldn't be looking at a computer screen but doing nothing is driving me potty - I can't read or watch a movie… and the sunshine outside makes it hurt even more:frown: Any suggestions?

Go sleep in the dark. Best thing for it, honestly. ;yes;
