    it has complex roots, because if you look at the discriminant, you can see that b^2 -4ac < 0

    Presuming you mean x^2 + 2x + 3 =0 and by negative number you mean negative discriminant, then yes, that's correct.

    That's because it's x^2 + 2x + 1 + 2 = (x+1)^2 + 2 \geq 2 for all x \in \mathbb{R} so will never have real roots.

    i got

    -1+squareroot of 2*i --> i = complex number
    -1-squareroot of 2*i --> i = compex number

    Okay thanks, does this mean I can't get a real answer?? As in just a number. What would I write as the answer, or isn't there one?

    How do you get your numbers like that, im guessing it is latex, is it hard to use?

    x is an imaginary number so no real solution
