How do you get more assertive?

I think I would like some examples of this because I have quite a submissive personality and find it hard to tell people what to do :redface:

K... like I know it's not amazing or out-there but I have a supervisor-ish type role atm and I would REALLY like some tips here because I'm finding it hard to give out orders - ahh! Thx :smile:

I could start with my parents acrimonious divorce, unreliable parents and bullies putting me down throughout my school life, but hey I'm grown up now, and my boss wants me to teach two younger people how to do stuff at my job.

They're not listening to me and generally being know-it-alls and am finding this frustrating :frown:

If it's your personality (something itself which evolves with time), then it's not simply a case of focus or identification, is it? It is inherently more complicated. But as you blame some aspects of your past, I'm assuming that you wish to change, grow or whatever substitute word you'd like to replace it with.

You need to accept confrontation. Do not shy away from it. Stubbornness is akin to being assertive. Don't let people tell you you're wrong or ignore you. Project yourself as you wish to be seen in a manner that commands respect. See where I'm going with this?

If this does not come naturally to you, then try to visualise the person you want to be achieving the goal, then become that person.

I hope this makes sense, but you'll have to forgive me... it is very early in the morning and I've not yet rested :smile:

Basically, you're in that position at work because you know what you're doing. You know. They don't. And hey, even if they do, or think they do, it's your job to do tell them what to do. Just remember you wouldn't be where you are if you didn't.

Yeah coz I have worked so hard at this job for quite a while now, and these two new people are like 'oh I know everything, don't try to tell me this' and it'll be wrong! I was never like this as a teenager, don't get why they can't simply listen and stop being irritating.

Just remember its a hierachy and your above them, so your the one in control.
