Unilink bus pass query

I'm going into my second year and I'm getting a bus pass.

From what I found the discounted price is around £325, but there's also the option for an academic year pass for £270.

This made me wonder why the academic year pass is so much cheaper when it seems to be offering the same thing. Are there any catches or hidden annoyances to this offer?

I'd guess it's because the academic year pass would only cover you from September until June rather than for an entire year?

Being from Southampton myself I know that the Uni Link company are owned by a bigger franchise called Bluestar. These buses go throughout southampton rather than just from campus to halls so perhaps the Annual pass allows you to use your pass on both Uni Link and Bluestar and thus more expensive? Not certain but that would be my guess.

The annual pass runs for a year from whenever you buy it, the academic pass runs from September to July (can't remember the exact dates), but the start/end date are fixed and obviously it's not a whole year pass.
