Sore finger

I have a really sore finger, i was using the microwave and when i reached to get my food out it was too hot so my arm jerked back and i hit the top part of my finger on something (can't remember what, may have been the door of the microwave). I didn't really hit it that hard and I would have thought the pain would have worn off by now but it really stings and i have a red mark although the area of pain is bigger than the mark all up round my knuckle and down the side of my finger too. Anybody got any ideas what i've done to my finger and why its still stinging?
You've probably just hit it badly that's all.

You sure you didn't burn it?

You sure you didn't burn it?

That's what I was thinking.
Have you got one of those microwaves that grills things?
I have and once I touched the grill element thingy and burnt my finger (it wasn't even red hot and I'd not been grilling so I didn't expect it to be hot).
You might have done that.
Perhaps you burnt it when you touched your food? You wouldn't have jerked your arm back in a reflex reaction if you hadn't touched your food.

Its not the whole of my finger, its just the top part, but i think it may be a burn, i may have hit it on the roof of a microwave which may have been hot and it's feeling a little better after having a cold cloth on it for a bit.

If it's burnt, put it under cold water

I'd say it sounds like a burn, so run it under cold water. Even now it may help.

General on-the-spot treatment for burns is cold running water for ten minutes (at least). Might still help it heal now. A wet cloth won't do much apart from reduce the stinging to be honest.
