I am writing my personal statement for Nursing undergraduate programmes and I wanted to start by saying that what triggered my decision was my fascination with the healthcare professionals who work at the frontline of humanitarian crises. But I'm worried that it might sound irrelevant, since what nurses are being trained for is to deliver healthcare within hospitals/care homes etc., and not at the frontline... any advice? Thanks a lot, E.

That's a good opening line in my opinion, it shows you think outside the box and you're not only thinking about hospital nurses and you could link it to transferable skills.
I would recommend mentioning hospitals/surgery nurses too somewhere in the personal statement though.
But still, I like that idea

Just make sure that you don't use that exact wording now that you've posted it on the internet.

Given that there are other roles in humanitarian crises, you should focus on what it is about nursing specifically that interests you
