Question - getting teary-eyed?

Recently I've noticed that whenever I see someone else crying or upset (on TV or in reality), I seem to get tearyeyed and quite mellow myself. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal! I recently had some quite deep problems within the family, and seems to have started since then..I'm fine otherwise, I just get tearyeyed whenever I see anything vaguely upsetting!...what makes it worse is I'm a guy! (and I never used to be this emotional:s-smilie:)

An example a few minutes ago, was on MTV Pimp My Ride (this will sound quite weird)...but the person who's car they were modding, he had tears and said "this is for my brother who passed away last year" - cos the car was passed down from him...and I out of nowhere had tears in my eyes (even though I've been very happy the rest of the day!)

Does anyone else experience this? or is it just me? :s-smilie:

i do too!! it takes next to nothing to get me to become teary eyed (although i am a girl) i too have had recent family problems, i always though there was something wrong with me but maybe we just more touched by people's emotions because of our experiences of sorrow/troubles? just a theory. you're just as normal as i am, but maybe that itself is worrying!!

It perfectly acceptable for a guy to get teary eyed

I get teary eyed at things like that =/ like i was watching extreme makeover home addition and both parents had died in a skiing accident leaving 6 teens behind and whenever they spoke about how much they missed them, it made me teary eyed.

I think it's normal to react to things like that, after all we're humans

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with it. I get teary eyed when reading sad news stories or watching sad films. But of course I just dont let anyone see. I have a reputation to uphold

yeah i do  it gets a bit embarrassing tbh.

also the family stuff here, im just hoping it goes away in time.

I wouldn't worry about it. I do it too.

It's a bit silly because I cry over really silly things. Sometimes someone will just be really sweet to someone else on TV or something and I'll get teary eyed. Books have the same effect.

Lots of people do it, it just shows human compassion.

More so than most males; I empathise quite easily. Well, either that, or I'm a hysterical exhibitionist with a profound sense for what is tragic.

Frankly, I prefer the former explanation.

Even though I have not had any family problems, I do exactly the same thing. I'm not sure why, but I think it's because I am very close to my family. If i ever see anything on television where somebody has left/died or a great expression of love, I immediately relate it to how I would feel in that situation and get all upset. Plus I am quite an emotional person anyway.

Maybe this could be something to do with your family problems. You haven;t specified what they were, but if they affected you deeply (and since family members are often the people with which you have the deepest and closest relationship), it could easily have triggered something.

I would not worry about it. Just because you are more affected by these things than you were before does not mean you are strange, it just means you are human.

And on the plus side, it's nice to find a guy who is able to connect with his emotions.

Thanks everyone, it just feels so weird! And I definitely agree with you aeiou81, due to the situation recently its made be link tragic events elsewhere to family members..makes sense. I suppose on a plus-side I don't break down into tears . thanks all.

i hate it when george's dad dies :frown: i empathise with people very easily, and greys anatomy always hits me - tho it also makes me wish i were doing medicine at uni.....

tho ive never actually cried at the tv, not that theres anything wrong if people do

last night i cried during Friends, Extreme Makeover and Hope and Faith.

seriously, don't worry! it just shows you're empathetic. I find myself laughing at myself through my tears. It amuses me, and amuses my bf even more!

Scrubs does it?! And the proposal scene in Friends between Monica and Chandler.

scrubs alllllllways gets me! it's all fun and games and then BANG, someone dies. i haven't even seen the one where ben dies and its his funeral yet but the very thought gets me all choked up.

and, even after having seen it about 14 times so far (no lie) the proposal is still a killer.

For all the teary eyed, a healthy dose of testosterone is warranted!

OP-I get weepy quickly, when reaind Harry Potter, to watching a film, to having a row with someone and they hurt me...
you're normal afterall we have emotions so we use to them and express them in how we see fit.

I'm like this too, when someone on tv cries i start welling up, i'm overly emotional though. It's normal, don't worry about it especially considering the family problems you've had lately.
hope you feel better soon

Its a good thing, its the people who hold it all inside that should be worrying.

I am absurdly sentimental, i used to feel teary if i saw someone sit alone at a table or something - as if they were lonely.
