I'm going in to my second year (penultimate) at Oxford studying Psychology and I'm strongly considering pursuing a career in investment banking. I want to get in applications for summer internships soon but I'm concerned that I'm not going to be a strong enough candidate to get a place - tbh all I really have is my academics and some demonstration of organisation in student clubs etc.
My question is this: should I try and extend my student life by a year so I can get on a spring week program this year, and also build up some sort of CV apart from top class academics; and then try for an internship the following year? Or do you think I've got a decent chance of getting an internship at a middle tier bank providing I interview well and perform well on any tests?

If it makes any difference I got 69 in prelims, and A-levels were 2A* 2A.

Is it too late to join societies and get involved etc? Obviously couldn't put it on the CV but maybe for interviews if I get that far.

Yeah it's a tad late for getting it on your applications, but hey ho, may as well get stuck into a few things.

You're fine mate, with a quick LinkedIn search you'll see tons of Oxford students that got internships with f all experience beforehand. Just apply.
