is 14kg too much?

hi,

i'm going back packing in india tomorrow - i've just finished packing and the weight is 14kg overall including the hand luggage (which is inside the big backpack for now). Is this too heavy? I wore it and found it fine - no discomfort whatsoever, and no pain in my legs.

please let me know whether you think its too heavy - i'll try leave some food or stuff at home if this is the case!

No one can say if its too heavy for you. You have to decide whether you can carry it about.
Also consider whether you have everything. If you think its too heavy then take out some stuff.
Just make sure the backpack sits comfortably on your shoulders and all the straps are adjusted properly.

Try walking like 2km with it on and see how you feel. If you can pull that off then you will be fine.

i'm counting on the food being eaten! and counting on the insect repellent and shampoo to run out also:smile: - all that should bring the mass down to 12kg on the return journey.

the load transfer is awesome! I love gregory back packs and i've only had it for a day! There is no pain so for now i'll try keep it!

Hey, I recently went backpacking to Sweden and Norway. Ryanair flight baggage limit was 15kg so we had to keep under that.

My bag weighed in at around 13kg. At first it felt fine just putting it on my shoulders etc.. THEN came to actually walking longer distances and trekking around cities (I was well glad once i could dump stuff in a hostel)

So yeah that weight will be heavier than you think and it's a real pain. You'll have to find somewhere safe to put your belongings and just carry around a daypack which is what I did. My back and shoulders are pretty strong too, but they sure aren't used to carrying around a weight for extended periods of time.
