Don't understand friend's hot and cold behaviour Watch

A friend of mine was in the city 2 weekends ago, and we met up twice. We're just friends, but there's always been a bit of history, we have slept together a few times, and just last month we were flirting heavily but in the end he didn't want a relationdship and I had feelings, but I think I'm more or less over it now ,and he's moving abroad in 2 weeks so doesn't want a girlfriend.

I think a lot of him, but I'm totally fine about just being friends. Anyway, we had fun during the weekend and met up with him and one of his friends, and in between ,we were talking loads, like he sent me 100 texts over those few days, and when I'd gone home he'd been calling me and stuff to check I got back ok, and we were texting loads.

ANd I don't know why but since then, he's been quite cold/distant with me online, not rude ,but just like he doesnt want to talk. He lives far but we used to talk almost every day, but now i'll message him and he'll give me short replies and won't bother saying anything else. He's still sweet with me but he just won't make effort to talk like he used to.

I know he's very stressed about going abroad ,but don't see how that should change our friendship. I'm trying my best to reassure him about the move and stuff ,and he's constantly online on chat, so I guess if he didn't wanna talk to anyone then he wouldn't be.

Just find it weird how it could go from that to him being very quiet. I've told him I'm over what's happened between us, I'm totally fine with being friends etc. and that there's no issue, so I really don't know..
