Hi, I'll be starting my third year soon. I need to know the procedure on how universities predict your degree classification.

I got 59.2% in second year and i'm studying hard for a 2.1 overall. What will the uni predict me when I apply for graduate jobs etc? someone please shed some light on this issue....

first year didn't count, second year counts for 25% and third year 75%.

Thanks

In order to get a 2.1 overall, you'll need something like a 60.3 average during your third year, i.e. you only need to do a little better than during your second year. That's well within reach, I'd say. So unless there were any particular circumstances that affected your performance this year and/or your referees have reason to believe you're significantly better or worse, they're likely to predict you'll get a 2.1, though not a very high 2.1.
Of course you could always just ask your referees for their honest opinion...
What kind of graduate job requires your tutors to predict a score?

Well, presumably it's a graduate job that requires a 2.1, which the OP doesn't have at the moment.
Yes, but they don't contact the university to predict scores. Most just give an offer conditional on a 2:1 and you send them your transcript when you finish. They don't call your tutor.

Ah, right, now I see what you're driving at. No, of course they won't do that.
Does your Uni not do 100% in third year as well as 25/75?
You predict yourself a degree class. If you get the job offer, they will ask for a copy of your transcript for a background check to confirm. However a 59.2 won't be a problem, as I think most universities weight the 3rd year most heavily anyway. If your job is contingent on a 2:1, they'll as for your transcript when you've completed the degree. If you don't get a 2:1 then, they'll have to decide what to do with you.

I've never heard of any graduate scheme contacting a tutor or professor for predicted marks.

Mine got asked. I had to put a tutor down as a reference and in one place on the form, he told me he had to say whether he thought I would get the 2:1 I had predicted myself.
Weird. Well I applied for business jobs (investment banking, Big 4, consulting) and never got asked for my tutor as a reference.

That is weird. I'm going to be working for a big 4 firm and they wanted a tutor reference.
A 2.1 should definitely be within reach when you were only 0.8% off this year and the third year is weighted three times as heavily, so I'd assume that will be your prediction.

Where did you read this?

60 credits and level 6. What could this mean :hmmmm2:
Oh sorry....
Level 4 1st year, Level 5 second, Level 6 third.
Credits... well each year you have to gain 120 credits to pass. Normally you have 6 modules worth 20 credits each. So basically if you get 2.1's in half the modules and 58-59 in the rest, you get a 2.1
