Hi, at school I was very lazy and did not know the consiqunces of failing my GCSEs. Therefore I left with the following GCSEs

    IGCSE English language C
    GCSE maths C
    Btec science pass
    Btec IT pass
    Btec sport pass

Currently I am doing the Btec extended diploma in engineering and I am predicted D*D*D* including distinctions in both maths units. I am also doing other extra stuff like summer school, EPQ, being a student ambassador Etc

My question is will Universities still give me an offer even though I have really bad GCSE grades? I have checked their entry requirement and I only meet their minimum GCSE requirements (English and maths ) however I'm sure I will exceed their Btec requirements.

I want to study the Beng Mechcanical engineering at one of the following unis

    University of Nottingham
    Univeristy of Birmingham
    Aston University
    Birmingham city

Please help I'm really worried ☹️

If you meet their minimum requirements for GCSEs and exceed their requirements for Level 3 you should be fine. Universities are far more interested in Level 3 qualifications than they are in GCSEs.

Check the requirements for the courses, you should be fine providing you match them.

Honestly? Possibly. If you have exactly the same Level 3 grades as the next person but they have higher GCSEs it's possible, HOWEVER, Universities use other methods to assess too, like interviews and personal statements. Really, if you meet their minimum requirements for GCSEs that's as far as it goes - they don't really look further than that. Also, bear in mind that achieving not so good grades at GCSE and super excellent grades at Level 3 shows you've upped your game - it shows maturity and dedication to your chosen subject.

Ah ok😀 I guess my personal statement needs to be very good then! By the way, in school I done IGcse English - as a first language (syllabus 0522) Is that seen as equivalent to GCSE English requirements for unis?

Yes, it's fine. Good luck with the Personal Statement!
