Argh. I was driving down the M27 (west bound) today just before J9 when the car ahead of me suddenly hit the breaks and swerved to avoid a stationary car in the right-hand lane. I luckily also avoided it, but it was incredibly scary having to suddenly pull across into the middle lane of a busy motorway regardless of any vehicle that may have been there (luckily there wasn't) in order to avoid the stationary vehicle.

I wasn't going particularly fast either, just with the flow of traffic probably slightly above 70mph. I pulled off onto a lay-by on the parallel A27 to call 999 and report it before someone was not as lucky as me and was seriously injured. Unfortunately checking highways.gov.uk there appears to be an 'incident' and lane closure, hopefully this was the just stationary car and wasn't anything more serious.

Does anyone else have any near death driving experiences?

Although I swerved to avoid a rabbit a couple of months back, that got my heart going enough.

On the M5 near Birmingham a guy in Merc just slammed into the side of a Ford Escort and it spun literally right in front of me. Boy did I **** myself then...

Yeah today i was parked up in the right hand lane of the M27 westbound, having a spot of lunch when this car almost hit me!

On a more serious note, my near death experience involved hitting a deer. A big one at that. Thankfully i was in a van but the amount of damage it caused was huge. made me question what would of happened if i had hit it in a car! I think i'd of probably joined the deer as road kill.

Driving into a 4 foot deep hole this afternoon? A rather large one at that? Ok, so that was just near death for my ego. I got out.

yeah we were driving southbound on the M5 once in the right hand land. Some mad guy was tailgating us so we went to move into the middle lane only a guy with a trailer in the left hand lane had the same idea just after us and started to drift over to the middle lane. We had to swerve back over but that idiot was trying to go past us at the same time so he had to brake hard. Serves him right for tailgating

Worst one was Princess Parkway in Manchester, I was doing 40mph and this break down truck was tailgating me (he was 1 foot behind) the lights suddenly changed and I couldn't brake as it would go into the back of me, I had to just go through on amber/red and speed up to 45-50mph to avoid any oncoming traffic (luckily there was no amber gamblers) amazingly the truck rent through on red and was tailgating me so I just slowed down to 27mph after that which angered him as he couldn't over take me

hmmm... well there are the countless times people have tried to knock me off my motorbike. Seriously, its madness the number of times ive made eye contact with the driver of the car that a few seconds later is trying to crush me by doing something completely insane.

I was driving from a village near Frome to Bath a few nights ago having been for dinner with a friend. Driving back along the country lanes it was like Bunny Suicide - every few hundred meters a rabbit would run out into the road. Then at one point we came across an owl which sat in the middle of the road staring at my headlights until i turned them off and it took off.

Was rather unnerving having so many animals run out in such a short space of time!

its always tempting to think **** it and brake anyway in those situations. afterall, its not your fault if they go into the back of you
