phone interviews are like any other interview apart from the fact that you couls be in your pjs and the other person doesn't know :p: they'll normally only ask a few questions, or it may be 30mins long, depends really. just sit straight or be standing up, have a confident voice, think through the answer before you say it,and don't be afraid to tell them that you need time to think through your answer. they should give you time to prepare for it,i doubt they'd just start the interview there and then if it's the first call you've made to them.

Good advice. In addition it would be advisable to take advantage of the fact that they can't see what you have been doing. Make some notes on Admiral and refer to them. Write down some questions to ask at the end. Make sure you understand the Admiral brand (what do they stand for, what are their company values?) and try to reflect these in the answers you give. Speak clearly (telephone manner is clearly important, which is why they are telephone interviewing. They also telephone interview to cut time spent, so the last post is right - it will probably be no longer than 25 - 30 minutes.

Have your CV in front of you, so that you may see what they see, and you can't get tripped up by forgetting something which might be on your CV.

And sound confident. Make sure your voice volume is not too high or too low. Have a glass of water ready in case your mouth gets dry from talking and nerves.

I am sure you will be great

Good luck!

I was going to post a thread like this one, because I'm in a similar position, a telephone interview with royal bank of scotland. I'm really nervous, because I know with most interviews they only pay attention to something like 40% of what you say and 60% of your body language (i don't know if they are the exact statistics), but with phone interviews its 100% of what you say! :s-smilie:

Thanks Joe Mc that sounds like good advice.

Just letting you know, I did the interview, it went ok, but i dont think i got through as 2 days have passed and they said in two days they would contact me if I got through. But nevermind, still have my part time job, will be trying the same company again in the near future when there are more better and suitable jobs advertising!

I had an Orange phone interview yesterday, I didn't really want the job and was close to saying "no" when she asked if i had time for an interview but I went with it just for the experience.

I hate phone interviews, the last few i've had have been really bad but this orange one went really great, she kept saying "well done you" (i hope that wasnt sarcastic :frown:) and said the interview was great and they'd contact me in three days for a face-to-face interview.

I probably wouldnt go to that interview IF i got invited but it was cool anywho.

I know from experience of recruiting that if someone says we will keep your details on file, they will forget them pretty quickly... unless you remind them at some stage. Why not give them a call back in a "remember me" type way a few weeks or a month down the line? It can't hurt. Especially if they were not going to call you in any case.

As far as telephone interviews go they are good experience, and sometimes easier to get through than face to face as you don't have all of the added pressure of being in the room, maintaining eye contact, not shuffling around nervously and generally controlling your bodily functions.

Sometimes it is good to go to job interviews when you don't care about the role as you can think about how to handle them without the pressure. Makes it easier next time. Up to you though...
