Okay, I was here pretty much a year ago stressed about my eldest leaving and going to Aston. Well, she made it through her first year....did well in her exams....kept herself to herself though, with little interaction with anyone aside from the general hi and whatnot in her flat but that was fine....not pushed her to do more, as felt it do more harm than good. We are quite local, so she's been home every weekend. She's enjoyed her summer at home, and seems okay about coming back BUT here I am again stressed about her ! Not really her going back now but her placement year. I am so worried about her not getting anything! She has a disability which will make it trickier, and this, coupled with her shyness....just so worried she will not get anything decent. She has a great brain but lack of self confidence....driving me nuts just now!

    Hey mumworries,

Totally understandable that you would worry about things like this — but I think the best thing to to is give her your support as you have been doing and letting her get on. In terms of her placement, I am sure the University would only work with places that promote equal opportunities and so I am sure she will get a good placement that she will be happy with.

The best advice I can give is try not to worry so much, of course, we all worry and she will worry about you; but worry from a distance and support her always. Nobody can ask you to do anything more! I wish you both all the best :console:

Aston has one of the best support networks for its flagship placement year. As a second year myself I've found the help I've received so far this year indispensable. From CV templates to help with interviews etc there are great resources available.

The Hub (the student advice zone) has a team dedicated to supporting disabled students and also give placement related advice: http://www.aston.ac.uk/current-stude...isabilityteam/

So don't get too worried on their behalf! If required, the comprehensive support network is always there to help if needed

You need not worry the uni has a specialist disability team and each course has a placement officer to help you
