    I can't seem to balance this equation..
    Concentrated sulphuric acid reacts with solid potassium iodide to produce solid potassium hydrogen sulphate, iodine vapour, water and hydrogen sulphide gas.

    I think you could reasonably write the overall reaction as this:

    9H2SO4 + 8KI ----> 4I2 + H2S + 4H2O + 8KHSO4


    In the above reaction, 8 molecules of sulphuric acid act as the acid required for Iodide to reduce the 9th molecule of sulphuric acid to H2S. So it would also be fair to write the reaction like this:

    H2SO4 + 8H+ + 8I- ----> 4I2 +H2S + 4H2O

    This version has simply removed the spectating species to leave the species that actually react
