Manchester or Leicester for medicine?

    • Thread Starter

So I don't know which university to apply for my fourth choice for medicine. I'm going to apply to Leeds, Sheffield and Hull York but I don't know what to apply for the fourth.

I like the idea of Leicester because their admissions criteria suits me (high UKCAT-740 and good GCSEs-7A*s 1A 1B).

I like the idea of Manchester because it's closer to home and a more well known, reputable university. I don't like the fact that they have some non-academic form which they include in admissions this year. Writing my personal statement is stressful enough.

They both seem like great cities. And medical students from both unis say good about them. But there's always going to be a bit of bias. So does anyone from a non-biased perspective know which uni is better for medicine?

I'm a muslim so 'night life' isn't important to me at all. In fact, I would prefer the university with a larger Muslim population so I don't feel ostracised because of my beliefs and can meet people with the same way of life as me (no drinking, halal food etc.)

Also I don't have a preference when it comes to PBL vs Integrated. I've researched both and they both suit my learning style.

I just want to know which medical school is better, which uni is better and which city is better.

thanks in advance for any advice

    Any reason why?

Where did you end up applying?

Leicester. And I'm glad I did. I went to the open day on Saturday and it's an amazing city and a great medical school from the looks of it. I hope I get in.
