The Rollercoaster Society

Hey Everyone,

How are you this morning?

I want to start a society about Rollercoasters. And generally to discuss the theme park industry and the entertainment and thrills you get from Rollercoasters. Thrill seekers and dare takers love going to theme parks to ride them! Fear, excitement, joy - there are so many feelings it brings out. Since I was little I always read about John Wardley - the civil engineer who designs most in the UK, and of course B&M who design most across america.

Please fill if you want:

Your favorite ride?
Why do you like it so much?
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)?
Best theme park and why?

Your favorite ride? Superman the Escape, Six Flags Magic Mountain Photo
Why do you like it so much? Its over 400 ft! AND its vertical both ways!
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Dodgems - because im a right little git, mwah I own everyone
Best theme park and why? Islands of Adventure - No matter how many times I have visited this place always amazes me!

Your favorite ride? Oblivion - Alton Towers.
Why do you like it so much? - Whilst it's short, a one trick thing and not particularly unique anymore, it's the master of tension, I still find myself terrified as I climb the lift hill despite having ridden it however many dozen times.
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Dunno!
Best theme park and why? Alton Towers or Six Flags MW. AT is huge and full of amazing theming and classic rides. SFMW builds its rides on a scale that you only see in the US.

Your favorite ride? Sheikra - Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
Why do you like it so much? - Scary as hell yet really fun.
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Probably them little boat rides where you just sit and relax peacefully.
Best theme park and why? o0o, probably Islands of Adventure. Dudley Do Rights Ripsaw Falls and Popeye and Bluto's Barge Raft are fab. Though i love Walt Disney World.

I adore rollercoasters, I'm a bit of a coaster nut and John Wardley is like the Rollercoaster Guru

I think Bollinger and Mabillard make the best steel coasters, they give such smooth rides, the seats are so comfortable, they offer such a variety in the types of coasters they make and the majority of them make that amazing noise which makes them look a lot worse than they are- I know a few people who have been put off going on certain coasters in the past due to the sound of the train going past lol.

Your favorite ride? Its got to be Nemesis

Why do you like it so much? I think its on of the best in the world. The height restriction for building at Alton Towers actually gave us a decent ride at Alton Towers for once. The whole concept of buliding it into a cavern with tight helices, inline twists so close to the structure around the station and underground and the loop going straight down into the cavern above the ribena "bloodfalls" gives such an exciting and intense ride that never ever gets old. Front row is a must for this ride. The queue even seems to go down a lot faster than other rides especially during busy times and the queue line is well laid out through the woods and your never too far away from the track roaring overhead. Theres nothing bad about this ride at all.

Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Valhalla at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Best theme park and why? This ones tough. I've never been to america but I have a feeling that Cedar Point in Ohio would top my list of best parks and I'm determined to go there one day. They have so many wooden rollercoasters which I think if well designed can be a lot better than steel coasters as they feel so out of control and are a lot more exciting than coasters being designed nowadays.

These launched coasters being produced by Intamin are popping up everywhere lately and I don't see what the attraction is. Rita and Stealth being examples here, they're so boring and uninspiring and the rides over before you know it, really not worth the wait in the queue line.

coasters are the best..

Your favorite ride? Kraken @ Seaworld
Why do you like it so much? Speed, good start, at the front is a nice rush of adrenaline
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Spiderman.. just to ace tbh
Best theme park and why? Universal Islands of Adventure, the best ive been to tbh, after spring break had finished the queues were short enough for me n family to be at the front of each ride.

Jesus your amazing. I have never known a girl to share so much passion about rides. Intamin AG lol are popping them everywhere because its like iPods; people "just like em". I do not like any intamin ride, X was pretty scary.

Dragon Kahn, is one hell of a coaster. And reading your post makes me climax. I wish I could to cedar point - for a few reasons. The Millennium force ride.

You are right about wooden coasters - if I knew you I would take you to experience the best wooden ride ever! I LOVED IT!!!!! - COLOSSUS!! are you RCCGB member?

The Switz chaps B&M dont get as much credit, people say they are overated. But helping JW design the nemesis - the most themed ride, they had to dig underground and create unique turns and over banking turns right around fences which shake as it goes past. Everything you said about the Nemesis is true, jesus star! Air is a good English ride example of a comfortable rollercoaster.

Your favourite ride? Don't like roller coasters that much but went to Cedar Point last year and went on Millennium Force and thought it was brilliant . Not really a really a roller coaster but I love Tidal Wave at Thorpe Park.

Why do you like it so much? Millennium Force not sure why I loved it so much really went with my friend and dad on it and was kinda scared before hand and they kept saying I was going to fall out and things and for some reason that made it great is really fast as well and pretty high . Tidal Wave wettest water ride I've ever been on and then you get wet again if you walk along the bridge thing.

Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Teacups! :p:

Best theme park and why? Cedar Point in Ohio is just massive and has 69 (Think it would have been 68 when I went last year because they were still building Maverick) rides been to Universal and Disney as well but they don't come close to matching Cedar.

i love roller coasters  so many to choose from dont think i have a favourite :frown:
i liked the rocking roller coaster featuring aerosmith in Florida a hell of alot though

Rollercoasters have got their ups and downs- it's swings and roundabouts really.

I have been to one park abroad- Disneyland Paris. Big Thunder Mountain was a great ride- fierce but not too bad. The Indiana Jones ride, by comparison, was being ran backwards at the time which does not make a fun ride.

The best theme park in the UK is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, particularly for Valhalla and the best (and one of only 3 remaining wooden) Wild Mouse in the world.

haha  You cant beat a well designed rollercoaster

No im not with the RCCGB but I'd love to go on one of their coaster tours, same with the theme park review website, they go on some amazing trips but I just dont have the money for it!

I've been to Port Aventura twice and Dragon Kahn is easily my third favourite coaster behind The Grand National at Blackpool which is such a crazy wooden coaster, I cant get enough of it especially sitting at the back where you feel like your about to get launched out of the car

X is that 4D coaster right? I MUST go on that one day, such a unique ride.

Your favorite ride? Another vote for Nemesis at Alton Towers for me.
Why do you like it so much? Its just unbeatable. all the other rides that have sprung up after it just can't touch it. and the queue is always pleasantly shorter than you think it will be.
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? I like Log Flumes
Best theme park and why? Alton Towers because its just down the road from me. Port Aventura is ace too. The way you can hear Dragon Khan throughout the park is fantastic. Really builds up the tension for riding it.

I so want to go to Alton Towers, but I hate when its packed with school kids. I like the really quiet times when you can just hop on any ride you want with minimal queueing. So I guess I'll have to wait a few weeks till its nice and quiet again.

The Hulk - Islands of Adventure, Florida

Amazingly fast, especially at the start when it accelerates really quickly. It feels so good.

Islands of Adventure, Florida - It's just awesome and opens in the evening/night time. So fun!

Was on that just today. OUCH! To be honest it wasn't that great, I'm not a person for the kind of fast turns that slam you into each side of the car.

Pepsi Max was very, very cool though, and I quite enjoyed the wooden coasters too.

Would quite like to be a rollercoaster engineer when I'm older... how cool a job would that be? Shame that most of them are designed in far-off places like the USA and Switzerland.

No you cannot. There are so many people I know doing civil engineering or physics and maths at university to all become some part of the theme park industry - I know these of coaster enthusiast forums.

People considering a career in the theme park industry should consider entertainment. If you are considering to be a rollercoaster engineer, landscape architecture, civil engineering, design, safety, security and cost. Lets not get into that!

X is great but its nothing, and I mean nothing compared to Super man the escape, TBH, STE is the only coaster I never put my hands up in the air, never, went on twice. What a rush!

Goliath, The Hulk, Montu, Kumba, Batman and Jurrasic Park River ride are the best US coasters - not been cedar point yet, I bet if I had though I would be ranting on and on about it!

Join rccgb. Think its £20 but I am not a member this year. Rollercoasters and theme parks are entertainment resorts; thrills and excitements its a rush really. People do not understand how I go on them - I hate heights, hate heights, but I always go on laugh my head of the ride!

And Rita is overrated - sorry people it is. Blackpool Pleasure Beach - LMAO - yeah its alright *scratch my nose* Best thing there is the chineese gardens maze, we had a right laugh when we went, sadly it wasted our day getting wet playing the maze and trying to get out!!!

Your favorite ride? the aerosmith roller coaster at Disneyland Paris
Why do you like it so much? cos it was the first rollercoaster i'd ever been on and for the music.
Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? the water rides, tidal wave at Thorpe Park is my fav.
Best theme park and why? Thorpe Park. I was going to put Alton Towers but when I visited I spent more time queing than I did on the rides.

Your favorite ride? 1)Infusion at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (or what used to be the Traumatizer at Pleasureland, Southport).

Spoiler

2) Dragon Khan at Port Adventurer.

Spoiler

3) Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris. :p:

Spoiler

4) Grand National at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Why do you like it so much? They are all so thrilling. :biggrin: And Space Mountain is in the dark, so you really don't know what to expect! The Grand National is a wooden rollercoaster, which is always waaaay better than any steel one! ;yes;

Your favorite thrill ride (non coaster)? Water rides, especially log flumes/Valhalla.

Best theme park and why? I would probably have to say Blackpool Pleasure Beach, just down to the wide variety of decent rides they have there!
