My university said (Salford uni) that I would get my placement allocations some time this week , but I'm just wondering if this would include my shift patterns and the days that I'm working on placement as I have a job which I have to tell them as soon as possible so they can work around me , and if not how do you find out your shift pattern ?? Thank you x

It will just be the placements you are going on. The shifts you will have to arrange with the placement themselves. This will either be with the "Link Nurse" or Band 6 responsible for student nurses, or your allocated mentor - or a combination of the two. When you get given your placements, you should be given a name and phone number to ring to find out more information. If you're trying to hold down a regular job while studying nursing you are going to find it very difficult. I appreciate the need for money in order to live, but nursing is such a tough degree that it really has to come first - as do your patients. If you are exhausted from working too many extra hours outside of the degree I would really question whether anyone can provide the best care to patients while doing this.

The best jobs for student nurses are those which have 0 hour contracts - many do bank or agency healthcare work, but other sectors like bars/pubs/clubs also offer 0 hour contracts
