I am an American college grad who is applying to LSE and King's for IR postgrad MA.

I was wondering how long does a personal statement of purpose typically need to be? Or how long is admissions expecting it to be?

Can it be any length so long as it provides detail and clear reasoning on why you want to see higher education in your field?

I ask as I am at roughly 500 words for mine. But on LSE's website I saw they were expecting between 1,000-1,500! But then it stated no more then 1,000 at most so I am quite confused.

    Thank you in advance!

Postgrad statements are usually 500-1000 words long or 1-2 sides of A4. If LSE have specific requirements make sure you meet them. Can you link to the conflicting pieces of advice please?

Sure here is is from LSE,

It's just general advice which I'm pretty sure also applies to those wanting to study IR too.

I'm not sure what the confusion is? The page you've linked me to says that different unis ask for different things and they've given you examples of what is expected by different unis. You need to do what your uni requires. For LSE the requirement is 1000-1500 words.
