Yes, the normal versions are out before the extended and the extended editions have so much more on them.

It is not just the extended film, it is the 2 discs of documentaries, the comentaries and the other stuff.

Before you buy anything, check Find-DVD. It's a great supplier comparison tool, if you want to shop online (although sadly Play.com hasn't been included ... yet)

I am not into films, I am big music buff, which is why most my DVDs are music related.

im not going to buy videos although they are much cheaper mainly because DVD's can work on PC's aswell and videos are going to be extinct soon enough

i will probaly build up my collection slowly, i might add Gangs of newyork that was a great film.

Well I have a small-ish collection, but it's growing by the month

I listed my collection here about a year ago, obviously it's very out of date.

Well, the extended editions don't come out at the same time as the normal one, so I get the norml one to pass the 6 months til the extended edition is released.

Ive spent the last couple of months out heres in Russia building up my dvd collection (they only cost two pound each and some of them are about 50p) and i have:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
    Full Metal Jacket
    Fight Club
    American History X
    Pulp Fiction
    Traffic
    Scarface
    Goodfellas
    Trainspotting
    Godfather 123
    Memento
    Citzen Kane
    City of God
    Blow
    Human Traffic
    Battleship Potemkin
    Citzen Kane
    Platoon
    Kill Bill 12
    Football Factory
    Schindlers List
    American Psycho (its shite admitedly)
    Full Series 1 and 2 of 24
    Brass Eye

And the whole lot cost me under 50 quid

Does anyone have any suggestions what i should add to it - as you can probably tell im quite into drugs, gangsters, violence etc
