contact lens making a red eye?

well basically I've worn contacts for about 5 months now with no problems. Only last week I noticed my left eye was rather red and bloodshot, like a red 'ring' around the coloured part of my eye, I didn’t think nothing of it! Only over the next few days it got worse and people started noticing and asking if my eye was ok! There is no pain in the eye and my vision is fine. It just looks awful. I decided to take out my lenses and wear my glasses to work instead and was hoping that would make a difference and let my eye ‘heal’. Well I wore my glasses all week and the redness disappeared!! So I got up on Saturday and put my lenses in, I didn’t even have them in for an hour and the redness/blood shot eye was back!

I have changed lenses (put in fresh pair, changed my solution) and still no joy. I went to the doctor who said it was a ‘burst blood vessel’ and that it would go of its own accord in ‘ten days or so’ My question is – if it’s a burst blood vessel’ then why does it come back as soon as I put my lenses back in? At the moment it’s only the one eye, the other is completely fine. Has anyone else had this?

If so, what did you do about it? How long did it take to go?

I’m going on holiday to Florida in two weeks so I obviously need this to heal by then!!

Go back to ur Optician & explain the problem u are having.
Maybe u need different Contact Lenses ?

I'm not sure how putting Contact's in can cause a burst blood vessel :s-smilie:
maybe ud been wearing them too much and therefore strained ur eyes causing it to burst a blood vessle (ive heard if this happening if u wear them at nite too cos ur eye cant relax). if it happens again or doesnt go away soon then go bak to ur optician and see if u can sort out new lenses and til them just use glasses
keep em out for a few days and wear glasses. it works. go for longer periods of glasses, shorter periods of contact wear until you get comfortbale. dont wear contacts unneccesarily (i.e. late evening, staying in, before bed etc) and this wont happen
Are you leaving your contact lenses in the solution long enough? I've had red/bloodshot eyes from not leaving them for long enough and my eyes have stayed like this for days.

Like the other two have suggested, try wearing your glasses for a couple of days to see what happens. If not, speak to your optician

Maybe you're wearing them too long? If I wear mine for more than 10 hours I always get red eyes, whatever other steps I take.

well, here is the thing, maybe you dont have the rite type of lenses
if u live in US like me, there r different types of contact lenses. i personally wear pro clear. i only wear them occasionally, so i never had any prob with it besides dry eyes...
also, u mite have worn them for too long... i would suggest 10 hrs MAX. if you are unconfortable with it, limited to as short as possible, and wear glasses...(girls can look pretty sexy in glasses IMO ;yes:wink:

so, hope that helps..
