Hey guys, I'm moving out of my home to uni, where the internet is actually somewhat good, rather than the 6 Mbps i get at home, and I want to start streaming on twitch.
From the people that already stream on the platform, would there be any advice for me starting off?

Choose a game that you enjoy playing, rather than one that is commonly played on streams and is popular. Viewers will appreciate your enjoyment and your knowledge of a game you like to play. If you just go along with what everyone else is doing, you're not doing yourself any favours

Not a twitch streamer myself but have some experience in content creation in general and planning to move to twitch at some point.

Know why you're streaming is probably the biggest thing I can think of. If you want to stream for fun, for money (as a business), or whatever that's fine. But know why you're doing it. Don't stream for fun and expect to get rich. Don't stream for profit and expect to make money if you put in the effort you'd put in streaming for fun.

As always do your research. Look online for articles about successful streamers. If you Google "Twitch tips for new streamers" or something similar you'll probably find loads of articles. Likewise if you're looking to do it even semi professionally you need to investigate your demographic as well.

The more professional and business like you try to be the more time and effort you need to devote. You also need to do more research, advertising and so on.
