Title: Replace UK with EU for it to make sense.

    Is there other options available?

    Become a US State?
Why not? We have large ties with he USA economically and within history we would quite possibly squeeze in well with the USA as a main gateway to Europe and be a great power house within the USA.

Turn the Commonwealth in to a economic block?
Why not? WE have all these countries who are part of this group and stepping up this group to hold new economic policies could be a great deal for the UK and the other nations.

The day we become part of the US is the day hell freezes over.

Economically, they're a mess, they're trillions in debt, nearly everything is owned by private organisations (even their intelligence operations) and they have no way of making any of the money back. [I'm aware I'm being a bit hyperbolic]
Socially, I'm not even going to start... but Windows is American so... hmmm
Ethically... they seem kind of hedonistic compared to rest of the world, maybe it's just me (by them I mean culturally not as individuals).
