    You'll write many drafts, so don't get too hung up on making everything perfect straight away. If you really can't get started, it might be a good idea to write your hobbies/extra-curricular paragraph - many people find that the easiest bit. Or just start with "I want to study philosophy and politics because..." and go from there. Once you have anything down, it's easier to change it.

    Start with the bit about experiences and reasons as to why you want to do that course.
    The start is by far the hardest bit but can often become easier as the statement progresses, so don't worry about not having an opening at this point.
