Antibiotic question

Hey guys,

Some of you may have seen me post about a pain behind my right knee a while ago. Turns out its some sort of bacterial infection that caused the whole calf, behind the knee and eventually some of my thigh to become full of bacterial slime... Absolutely revolting.

I got given some strong antibiotics, I reckon they were just saying that!! Called FLUCLOXACILLIN, which ive been taking for the past few days and manually draining my wound, when the opportunity presented itself (I thought it would help!)

I still cant straighten my leg out, but continue to take the antibiotics. BUT, Ive noticed that when I smell inside the jar immeditately after opening, there is a nasty, rancid smell in the antibiotic pot. And also, when I take them, if I burp afterwards, I can taste a musty nasty flavour from the tablet. I suppose this could be normal, and probably is...

Just wanted to know... is it alright that my antibiotics smell, and make my burp smell? Seems silly, but id rather know before my next dose in 20 mins.

For alleviating my vast fears, have some rep!

I'm actually just in a great mood, because the sun is shining... the weather is sweet:biggrin: and I can walk again now!!

I find it ridiculous that bacteria can cause me so much pain and actually PREVENT me from straightening my leg. Horrible!!

Well I can hobble, I guess!

Amd should these bloody pill things be causing reactions in my stomach, im having to burp fairly frequently... and I NEVER burp normally. Plus it makes my chest area feel tight every now and then... ewww.
Robbie it's just an after effect from your medication. Never worry  but if you want to get it checked over, just ring up your GP
When you get a vacination they give you a bit of the germs, so I assume anti biotics are on the same basic, give you the good germs you need.
Burping is rude, yuck.

Erm, no, just....no. Vaccinations inject an inactive part of the virus/disease so that your immune system learns how to detect and combat the virus/disease in the future, antibiotics kill the bacteria themselves. Completely different process.

Thank God. Just, thank God. Sometimes I really, really worry!!
What I said really, just what I would say to a 11 year.

You're not speaking to an 11 year old though, so talk sense.

Plus, it's not the same thing at all.

exactly they're 16, not 6.
Antibiotics in no way shape or form give you good bacteria. on the contrary, they often kill off alot of your good bacteria as 'casualties of war'.
thats one of the reasons why you don't take antibiotics unless you absolutely have to.

Are you sure you're not thinking of 'probiotics'.
Whatever, I posted trying to offer help..... Jesus, excuse my ignorance, its not going to take away his burping is it.

About the antibiotics smelling what do you expect as someone above pointed out its a type of penicillin and penicillin comes from a type of mould so that would explain why it smells. So don't worry about it.
