I am considering doing the 1 week NCS course this autumn, but I know my mum isn't totally convinced. Can anyone who's done NCS tell me what it was like/whether they would recommend it?

Defo recommend it. It was amazing. It would probably be better to do the full Summer one I think but it's up to you but I think you should definitely do it. It is a really great experience.

The summer one is more worthwhile than the one week course! I graduated on the 12th of September and it was the best feeling ever!

SOOOOOO worth it, I CANNOT stress to you. Though, I would wait and do the summer programme, it is much more fulfilling and you have more of a chance of making friends and bonding. I took part in summer 2015, and i volunteered as an associate mentor this year. I love it so much i'm looking to work as a senior mentor in 2017!

    Seriously do it.

Honestly it was the worst thing I've ever done in my life. It was ran by Safe In Tees Valley for me but might be different for you.

    Sorry to hear that.

Was it the people that ruined it? I think it depends where you are in the country

I personally hated it. Worst possible experience I have ever had and lost a couple of friends in the process. Met some predominantly immature people my age and was just surrounded by drugs. The experience of going to Wales was great but overall I didn't like it so dropped out very early!

I found it to be one of the best decisions I've made. Brilliant people, staff and experience. Can't fault it at all. I went into it not knowing anyone and have left it with good friends. I've got my graduation on Tuesday.

    TL;DR

    Hell yeah bruh

It was extremely unorganised, not fed properly on residential week 1, the leaders lied about what we did so thye got paid more, kids who didnt participate still got to graduate which was unfair, we didnt do anything to truly benefit the community and it lasted longer than supposed to. Your summers are far better off spent volunteering outside of ncs or doing a summer job. Theyll go on to say unis look for it but they don't rate it much.
