Go and make friends elsewhere, join societies etc. At the beginning freshers are very open to making friends and then after a few weeks it slows down. I always thought halls were a bit better as there are more people to meet.

Honestly I would just go on your own. Everyone is in the same position as you, no one knows anyone or has a set group of friends yet. I wouldn't be worried about not having anyone to go with. Just have a few drinks which will give you a confidence boost and I'm sure you will get chatting and make some new friends who you can enjoy the rest of freshers with.

Of course its good for your confidence. But think of how many students are going, I can assure you many will be alone. Just go and fib if anyone asks

Just try and make some friends on your course. You might have introductory lectures and stuff where you can meet them. I understand how difficult it is to actually make friends who will hang out with you outside of the lecture/ talk but you might aswell try. Most people are really open to making friends in the next few weeks so just be as outgoing as you can.

    Hi vdm1

I would just echo the advice that the others have offered, really. I wouldn't be worrying yet, freshers hasn't even started and the majority of first years will arrive this weekend. You'll have plenty of opportunities to meet people and make friends throughout the week, especially at your course inductions. Perhaps go along to a society taster session for something you're really interested in or something that you've never tried before.

Your flatmates are probably feeling the same, might just be really shy - keep talking with them, they'll open up soon!

Hope this helps man, let us know how it goes

You've got to remember freshers is all about making friends! Don't be scared about going, if you can't find anyone message me, my house is year 2 so we aren't going to freshers (some of us are reps though) but I'm happy for you to come out with us! Ain't no way your missing out on uni life!

I'm in the same boat, before I booked the room I was told I would be with other fellow undergraduates. Instead I'm living with 6 international students some mature, some freshers who didn't even bother getting a freshers wristband because they don't go to any of the events. Most of the time our kitchen is empty and sometimes people even make food and take it back to their rooms to eat it, making it pretty much impossible to socialize. I'm from Trent too btw!

Hi, I have made a friend who is in the opposite situation. He is in a flat in New Hall with 7 others who like to party and socialise together most of the time.
He prefers to chill in his room and finds it difficult to integrate and feels very down about it.

My reason to post this is to try to help him.

So basically would anyone who wants a more party atmosphere etc like to swap rooms. His flat mates are very nice students and would welcome anyone who would prefer to swap

If this was anywhere in the city I would do it but Clifton is too far for me.

Hello I have a great city NTU site room vacant in Victoria halls in nottingham, only £102 per week with an ensuite and a big, spacious room with a double bed and lots of storage space. Victoria halls is right in the centre of the city, very close to Aldi and victoria centre and it is right next to a bus stop. THE RENT IS PAID UNTIL JANUARY, and you can move in asap so I am just looking for someone to continue paying it after January. My flatmates are very friendly and polite.
