For some reason, the article only takes into account terrorist activities as counting towards killings for refugees (in the US), rather than all sources of killing people - one obvious omission being homicide.

I know the title here only specifically mentions terrorist refugees - of which there are very few, especially in the US - but the article mistakenly refers to the total over all refugees:

So, as Oliver points out, that is roughly 1 in 261,000 meaning that people called Mike and even actual peanuts have killed more in the US than refugees.

If we were to include homicides for refugees (as they are included for all other groups), and ask the slightly more useful question of "given a man named Mike, and a man named Mohammed, who is more likely to be your death?", I think we'd get a different answer, since this relies on homicide rates, rather than numbers - which is misleading, since there aren't many refugees in the US, but many people called Mike.

I've not looked at the article but I know this has arisen cause John Oliver was using it to mockingly criticise someone called Mike being OTT about "terrorist checks" in the US. So all of you who are getting moody over it, congrats because it was meant to be used as a joke...
