Lack of work experience / volunteering

    • Thread Starter

So I'm applying for medicine 2017 entry and I'm worried that I don't have enough work experience or volunteering to make my application stand out. I'm a decent writer, so my personal statement sounds pretty good and I've really expanded on the little WE/volunteering that I've done:

I have a few days in a hospice and a GP's (but literally a week put together).
Teaching/tutoring lower ability maths students for a year.

That's kind of all I have at the moment. I'm a bit concerned that my only long-term volunteering role isn't medical related.

I have decent grades and UKCAT, but I'm concerned that this could trip me up at interview, or if I have to fill in a form saying how long I was in each role for.

Which universities place less emphasis on WE/ volunteering?
Do you have exam superstitions?
