Hi everyone, how much maths did you have to do in the online games? I was just wondering how best to prepare for them.

None. You can't really prepare - they are games!

Has anyone who has recently done the games gotten a response? Did the games over a month ago and no response. Emailed them two weeks ago and they responded they are still deciding and still no response since then.

Did the online games thing a few days ago but no response yet - bit odd this this should be all automated right? So should only take the computer a few seconds to determine if you meet the criteria - at least I've always had almost instantaneous responses from online assessments before from other companies... Bit odd...

Also echo the comments about the games being kinda odd and sometimes it wasn't quite clear what you were meant to do - e.g. in the card game I didn't realise there was meant to be a strategy, just kinda assumed it was a totally randomised deck and I was meant to indicate the fact I knew the probability of particular cards coming up didn't depend on what had come up so far by clicking through them in order or something... Weird, still not sure what some of them were assessing. Also struggled to even read the numbers quickly enough in the memory test and the arrows in the weird which-way-is-the-arrow-pointing test - some of us have poor eyesight you know... :/

Hi - I got a response almost immediately, literally in less than 10 mins.

I moved onto the video interview and got automated feedback within 1 hour but they are yet to tell me whether I passed or not. I'm rather skeptical as almost everyone who has taken the video interview has received instant feedback.

I know you said you emailed them but if I were you, I'd email the computer game help people, you know they give an email to contact if you have issues and likewise email graduate recruitment, copy them into the email so they are aware that there have been some technical hiccups! Make sure you highlight that you've spoken to people who have taken the test and almost immediately received the online games feedback.

Hope this helps!

Apparently the marketing graduate scheme has closed now because they have already filled up all the places? Did anyone actually get through to an assessment centre before they closed for this scheme?

I think this just means that nobody else can apply now, they will go through all of the remining candidates and send out invites to the discovery day (I hope/think this is how it will work)

I completed the video interview a day ago and received feedback shortly after; it seemed very positive with comments saying "excellent" and "positive". It sounded promising, but I haven't heard back since to know if I've passed this stage to get an invitation for A/C. It's quite strange seeing as the I heard back quite quickly if I passed or not soon after completing each stage. Does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes to hear back if you've passed the video interview?

Reply 90

Those are computer generated feedback points. They do not necessarily mean you have passed this stage, even if you were at least competent in all areas.

Yeah I thought so too. They do send out rejection letters I think.. a lot of other firms don't bother sending rejection letters..

Reply 92

Yes they do. I learnt the hard way - haha. It was frustrating as the initial email they send you implies you did well and are likely to be successful to the next stage when this isn't necessarily true! Best of luck!

I gave my video interview for R & D today, the first 3 scenario based questions I found alright but the last question I found really hard and messed up on the calculations and I think that's where I went down. The first email I got was the feedback which was mixed and the second email I got was the one telling me I have been unsuccessful :frown: I did so much preparation and now it all just feels like a waste.

Bless you Hun. Sorry to hear about the end result. Keep applying for what you desire to do and just remember that everything happens for a reason- you may land a position somewhere else which you never could've dreamt of!

I wish you all the luck- be positive & keep going..nothing comes easy x

On that note, you seem to be the only one who has gotten a reply for the video interview pretty much on the same day!! Wow! I'm still waiting for mine, 3 weeks later!

I agree the computer games are very strange and I struggle to believe they assist well in candidate selection.

Generally, in any 'game' that you play, whether it's a board game, sports or a computer game, there is always some sort of 'task and 'aim'. In these mini-games we've taken part in it often wasn't clear what the 'task' or the 'aim' was, which is odd and rather counterproductive.

For example, the 'game' where you must send money to a stranger is very confusing. It doesn't seem to immediately resemble any real life scenario, and the aim of the 'game' isn't quite clear.
How on earth would you or I end up in a situation where we're bouncing money back and forth from each other for fun?

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out what the game was getting at too :/ Tbh, I think I would have preferred the standard maths/ psychometric tests, at least there are clear questions (usually...) although I guess for the latter people often try and second guess what the most suitable candidate's personality would be like rather than answering too accurately... I fail to see the games being much better though :frown:
