There is a really nice guy who lives across the road from me. The other day he asked for my phone number so being the nice person I am I gave it to him.

Before I go any further let me just state that he has learning difficulties among other mental conditions I believe.

Not 5 minutes after giving him my number, he texts me to ask how I'm doing. We chat for a bit before telling him I was going to bed. His last text asked if I could text him at exactly the same time every night. I reluctantly agreed and though nothing of it. I missed the next night because I was out but thought nothing of it. He then asked where I was and told him I couldnt talk because I was tired. He continued to text me through the night but I just ignored it. Also when o do respond he gets into a cycle of repeating himself so I end up telling him what I've already told him.

It's been a few days now and he is driving me crazy. Whenever I don't respond he comes round to my house and asks if I relieved his last text and that he wants me to respond. A few minutes ago I caught him peering through my window to check if I was responding.

I've had enough to but I don't know what to do about it. Not only will he not stop texting me he is now hanging outside my house at ridiculous hours.

I have thought about blocking his number but then he will just come round to my house.

    I would appreciate any advice

Not sure. I want to be a nice guy and help him but at the same time I want to keep my sanity

From what you've described, it sounds like he does.. mhm..
I think it's best if you're direct about it with him (via text). If that doesn't work then I think you might have to ring 101 and report this man but explain to them that you suspect he has learning difficulties and he might not be purposely trying to come across as dangerous / harassment.

    How old are you?

Tell him you arent interested and that hes not to come round any more.

If he ignores that, then ask someone else to go and talk to his parent.

If he has none and continues, then warn him again, but be firm. If he ignores again , then let the police know and they cna have a word with him.

The reasons you do the warnings is because you cna show them you have tried to sort it out yourself and he has ignored you.

Thanks for the advice. I did want to talk to him about it but didn't know how he'd react. I don't think he is dangerous but spying through someone's window isn't a good sign

Ask him what he wants, if he says anything stupid just tell him he is stupid and that if he doesn't go away he might get into trouble.

If he lives with anyone ask them to mention it to him and explain how it could be perceived (as it is). If he's autistic it's unlikely that hinting will be clear enlugh for him. You may jusg have to direct about it.

whatever you do pick your moment and make it clear, so he understands. Keep the diary and evidence.

Haha. Have you read "No Longer Human" by Dazai Osamu?
"Immaculate Trust must surely be a crime."

You shouldn't give your phone out to anybody and everybody - what kind of dumb culture is that you got there?

Anyway, I wonder if my advice is good but... Get rid of your "niceness" and be more assertive.

Tell him the truth, up to his face and don't ignore him but make up an excuse as to why you can't text him anymore and tell him not to stand out your house and that you don't want to know him anymore or else you'll call the police. He'll get scared. If he doesn't listen and continues to stand out, talk to people. If things continue, talk to the police.

Either way, be assertive and cautious. Good you asked for advice on TSR - it shows initiative on your part.

I understand but I just try and be nice. Perhaps that will be my downfall. I should be more assertive but he seems so helpless.

Don't worry if he doesn't understand, there are still ways you can sort it out If he doesn't understand / ignores the text message, then your second course of action should be speaking to his carer (if he has one) and if that doesn't work then it'll have to be a 101 call. :c

He responded and says he won't bother me anymore. I've agreed to text him every now and again but he is forgetful sometimes so we will see how long this lasts.

Thank you for all the advice guys

Nah, someone was being like that to my sister and was saying stuff like "come over here" or something like that. According to what I heard, he sounded weird and stuff.

Anyway, just be careful and prepared k?
