You will die now or in 50 years, and since there is no afterlife, it doesn't matter how or when you die. Doesn't matter if you die grayhaired reading a book next to the fireplace, or if you jump of a building.
I want you think of this every night before you go to sleep.
    Every night.

Why should I think about it every night?

I believe, that once I die, my consciousness will be gone permanently, and I will slowly decompose, along with every trace of myself and everyone/everything I know.

I really don't care, because, after all, I'll be dead! XD Focus on the present and the near future, not on what will happen decades into the future.

Instead of fixating on death, how about we just try to appreciate and enjoy the time we have left?

Why focus on the present? You'll die anyway so why not make it today? What's the point in delaying the inevitable?

    Think about this every night
    Every night
    Every night
    Every night
    Every night
Because I have stuff to live for?

The repetition of "every night", is doing nothing for me, by the way, although it does give off a decent comedic effect.

The repetition of "Every night" makes you sound like you're doing one of those **** transitions to a flashback in some 80s soap, all you need is the harp music.

Anyway have you actually got a point?

Yes I am afraid that is the harsh reality of it all, when we die there is nothing.
Big Deal. Now with that knowledge live your life to the full,

Lol. I was thinking more like a 3rd rate 90's horror movie but this works as well.

This is the exact same thing with people that believe in an after life too?
Wouldn't their lives matter even less since they have an eternal after life after they die?

Your assessment is correct about the lack of an afterlife. However, like any sensible atheist, I prefer to live the time have left in a way that gives me the most satisfaction, content that I can be proud of the legacy I leave behind (my actions and achievements in life, my children).

I certainly don't dwell on death, though, and won't be doing what you ask.

I already knew this. But I have 2 points:

    1. I wasn't alive before I was born, and suffered no ill consequences from it. After-life=pre-birth
    2. If your god exists then pretending to believe in him wouldn't grant me access to heaven and god is supposedly omniscient, he would know I was lying. He'd be aware of my atheism so I'd be sent to hell anyway.

Ultimately it's better to be intellectual honest and accept that I'm an atheist, rather than pretend otherwise in order to trick god into granting me supernatural rewards.

It does matter to the individual involved. Why would an atheist not care about dying a slow and painful death for example?

An atheist doesn't believe there will be anything after death but that doesn't mean that the way or time they die is irrelevant to them.
