Ive been in my halls for a week now and i hate it. my room is very nice and im in a great location but somehow, all 12 my roomates are 3rd years and chinese foreign students. along with this, they are all friends from living with each other from the past... As i am british and in my first year, there is obvious maturity and cultural differences. They all stay in their room all day or talk to themseves in chinese so its very hard to form anny sort of relationship with anyone besides hi and bye when walking past each other.
ive seen other floors and flats on the same accomodation, and while there is a large number of chinese foreign students, there is alsoo a large number of domestic students and they appear to be mixed very well.
i have paid they full installment up until january already so im not sure hw possible it is toswap rooms, but i cannt move somewhre else as they wont give me my money back.
    Help...

    Why do you care?
As long as they are decent roommates (clean, quiet) I don't think you not being able to socialise with them is a good enough reason to switch accomodation. It's just your first week, im pretty sure you will be able to make friends amongst your course mates etc.
    Best of luck

    Hello ,

It's understandable that you are feeling uncomfortable in your accommodation but at the end of the day, as I've said to others, there is no rule that you have to talk, get along or be friends with the people in your accommodation - at the end of the day, it's somewhere to rest your head. Sure, it's nice if you can be friends and talk to your flatmates but you can make friends with other flats, and people off your course and what not - just see them and just live in your accommodation. As someone else has said, as long as the accommodation is okay, why not?

But if it's affecting you that bad - talk to the university / accommodation officer and see if there is another room you can transfer too - sometimes they have vacant rooms.

    Good luck
